About the event

When pirates weren’t roaming the seven seas plundering ships for treasure, they were held up in pirate lairs, join the Museum of the Great Southern these school holidays on Skull Island and discover the pirate’s way, find out why pirates wore an earring and were there really female pirates?

Sign up for the Pirate’s Charter or dress up in pirate costume, try your hand at tying knots or chart your way around the museum to uncover the clues and enter the draw for a prize.

Discovery Centre – School Holiday Activities – No booking required

Pirates Charter - sign up to get your charter and get a bucket load of Pirate fun!

Times: 10am – 4pm

Cost: $10 (includes Stained Glass Beauties $3, Painted Pirates $4, Buried Treasure $3, and Treasure Box $3)

Ages: All ages

Sign up to the Pirate Charter and gain access to $13 worth of Discovery Centre activities.

Pirates Treasure

Times: 10am – 4pm

Cost: $4 (or included with a Pirate Charter)

Ages: All ages

Pirates like to bury their treasure. Using maritime images and dazzling glitter, design and create your own personalised embellished piece, this is one treasure box you won’t want to hide!

Stained Glass Beauties

Times: 10am – 4pm

Cost: $3 (or included with a Pirate Charter)

Ages: All ages

A stained glass is a thing of beauty, why not make your own. What stained glass design will you choose…skull and crossbones, a galleon in full sail or a scarlet macaw

Painterly Pirates

Times: 10am – 4pm

Cost: prices range from $2 to $4 (medium plaster included with a Pirate Charter)

Ages: All ages

Skull island is a pirate haven, it’s where pirates go to rest and have fun, some pirates take up painting as a hobby. Pick a plaster to turn into a pirate painterly masterpiece.

Buried Treasure

Times: 10am – 4pm

Cost: $3 (included with a Pirate Charter)

Ages: All ages

Pirates raided many ships loaded with treasure, pirate booty took the form of gold, silver, coinage, and precious jewels. We’ve discovered a load of encrusted coins help us discover what lies inside.

X Marks the Spot

Times: 10am – 4pm

Cost: Free

Ages: All ages

Can you crack the clues to our treasure map? Collect a map from the Discovery Centre staff, then navigate your way around the Residency Building finding the answers and return your completed map to the Discovery centre to go into the prize draw.

Programs are subject to availability. All children 12 years and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
