Following the launch of the AMF St Ayles skiff project at last year’s festival, two beautiful skiffs have now been built in the interim. We invite you into our workshop to see how the skiffs came to life under the hands of our volunteers. This display will take you step by step through the process

About the event

ROW ROW ROW YOUR BOAT…….

At last year’s Maritime Festival we launched the St Ayles Skiffs project and the six visiting skiffs from around WA attracted lots of interest and participation on the Boat shed foreshore.   This year we are proud to present not one, but two completed skiffs for the enjoyment of the people of Albany.  Now that the boats are built, we are really keen for people of all ages and fitness levels to join in the rowing fun.  Where ever these boats have been built around WA, Community rowing groups have sprung up and taken to the water - seniors, women’s groups, men’s groups, mixed groups are all enjoying the benefits and pleasures of a gentle morning row on the water followed by coffee, morning tea, fun  and fellowship.

The Maritime Festival is the perfect opportunity to spark further interest in this fun community project.

Inside: The Maritime Foundation Boat Shed will host a fabulous display with the woodworking area up as a static display of the essentials in building our boats. The boat moulds we initially used to build the upturned hull will be set up as though we are ready for planking. The laminating jig used to make the bow and stern stems will be set up with laminated timber in place as though it is ready to be glued. We will also have up on the white board, the detailed plan drawings of the boats.

A boat will also be in that area for people to look at. This display will be attended by a couple of our woodies for the day.

Outside: We will have a manned  information table where both Albany and Denmark Community Rowing will be taking details of interested persons. We will also have the other Albany Skiff and one Denmark Skiff on display and available for a demo row around the harbour.
