Live @ the Town Hall All Ages – FAQ

Why is this an all-ages event?
  • The City of Albany’s Youth Friendly Albany Plan includes a strategic goal to develop an iconic all-ages music festival. This event is a meaningful step toward that vision.

  • All-ages festivals are designed to be vibrant, safe, and inclusive, offering spaces where people of all ages can connect through live music. These events help build stronger communities and support the next generation of artists and audiences.

  • Lastly, we’ve also heard directly from young people who want access to live music events — which are often held at licensed venues they can’t enter. This event opens the doors and invites them into the experience.

What does "all-ages" mean, and how is it different?

An all-ages event means everyone is welcome — but we go further by adding features to make it inclusive, welcoming, and accessible:

  • Alcohol-free environment

  • Carefully selected artists however, it is the parents’ responsibility to judge if this event is suitable for their child.

  • Affordable ticket pricing

  • Fully accessible venue (excluding the dress circle)

  • Supportive spaces like the Wanslea Chill-Out Zone

  • Inclusive vibes for everyone to enjoy live music

Do parents have to stay?
  • Children aged 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the event.

  • For older young people attending alone: the City of Albany can’t prevent anyone from leaving the venue, but staff will happily help contact parents if needed for early pickup.

Why is the event alcohol-free?

Keeping the event alcohol-free:

  • Encourages a broader mix of attendees

  • Promotes a more relaxed and welcoming atmosphere

  • Makes it easier for families to attend

  • Keeps the event affordable

  • Aligns with our commitment to providing youth-friendly spaces

A wide range of soft drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.
Please don’t bring your own food or drinks (sealed water bottles are okay).

What makes this event child-friendly and safe?
  • Increased security presence throughout the event

  • Experienced staff and trained youth volunteers on-site

  • A cloak room and bag check system

  • Wanslea Chill-Out Zone for downtime and support

  • Clearly marked exits, fenced outdoor areas, and secure re-entry wristbands

Why do I need to check my big bag or coat?

For safety and comfort, all large bags (bigger than a tissue box) and bulky coats must be checked in at the cloak room. This:

  • Reduces trip hazards

  • Prevents accidental injury in crowded spaces

  • Deters theft

  • Keeps the venue secure

The cloak room is supervised at all times. Items are tagged with your name and contact details for easy return.

Will there be food available?

Yes!

  • Food trucks will be on site — more details coming soon

  • Snacks will be available at the bar

  • Side access door will be open for convenience

What accessibility features does the Town Hall have?
  • Universal Access Toilet (UAT)

  • Lift access to the main auditorium

  • Trained staff available to assist people with disability

  • Accessible entry ramp (included in the fenced outdoor area)

Can I leave and come back?

Yes — pass-outs are allowed.

  • Just keep your wristband and ticket for re-entry.

  • Children under 13 will be given a different coloured wristband for easy identification.

Will intoxicated people be allowed in?

No. This is a strictly alcohol-free event. Intoxicated individuals will be refused entry or asked to leave.

Will bags be searched?

No. However, bags larger than a tissue box must be checked in at the secure cloak room for everyone’s safety and comfort.

What’s the outdoor space like?

The outdoor area will be:

  • Fenced off from the general public

  • Inclusive of the accessible front entry ramp and public toilets

  • Wanslea’s chill out zone will be outdoors
